In a lush and lively forest lives a hedgehog. He is respected and envied by the other animals. However, Hedgehog's unwavering devotion to his home annoys a quartet of insatiable beasts. Together, they march off towards Hedgehog's home and spark a tense and prickly standoff. Exquisitely directed by Eva Cvijanovic and based on the classic story by Branko Copic, a writer from the former Yugoslavia, Hedgehog's Home is a warm and universal tale for young and old that reminds us there truly is no place like home.

WEBVTT
00:00:14.083 --> 00:00:16.333
(whistling)
00:00:24.625 --> 00:00:27.499
(narrator):
Through old tangled paths,
00:00:27.500 --> 00:00:28.874
to the forest edge,
00:00:28.875 --> 00:00:34.207
proudly wanders
mighty Hedgehog Hedge.
00:00:34.208 --> 00:00:38.333
(croaking)
The hawk respects him.
00:00:38.500 --> 00:00:40.916
The wolf stays away.
00:00:40.917 --> 00:00:46.125
The snake dreams of him
all night and day.
00:00:48.875 --> 00:00:50.791
Hedgehog is fearless,
00:00:50.792 --> 00:00:52.833
everyone knows.
00:00:52.834 --> 00:00:56.333
Brave and invincible...
00:00:56.542 --> 00:00:59.333
the story goes.
00:01:12.542 --> 00:01:14.916
A rumour spread -
it may be hearsay -
00:01:14.917 --> 00:01:18.249
that Hedgehog received
a letter one day.
00:01:18.250 --> 00:01:20.707
\"Dearest Hedgy,
you are on my mind.
00:01:20.708 --> 00:01:26.124
\"A friend like you
is so hard to find.
00:01:26.125 --> 00:01:28.791
\"Join me today
for a yummy feast.
00:01:28.792 --> 00:01:33.834
Hurry up, my dear.
Come visit at least.\"
00:01:35.208 --> 00:01:36.959
(gasping)
00:01:56.708 --> 00:02:00.165
- Good afternoon, Fox,
creature of virtue.
00:02:00.166 --> 00:02:03.624
With 300 spines,
I bow before you.
00:02:03.625 --> 00:02:06.290
May Rooster\'s feathers
adorn your lot,
00:02:06.291 --> 00:02:09.541
and fat yummy hens
stew in your pot.
00:02:09.542 --> 00:02:12.666
May you fan yourself
with fluffy goose wings,
00:02:12.667 --> 00:02:15.749
may your soft pillows
be tiny ducklings.
00:02:15.750 --> 00:02:19.040
I swear to you
with all my heart,
00:02:19.041 --> 00:02:27.041
I can hardly wait
for our lunch to start.
00:02:49.291 --> 00:02:51.542
(snoring)
00:02:56.875 --> 00:02:59.125
(hooting)
00:03:08.166 --> 00:03:10.999
I am so stuffed.
The lunch was great.
00:03:11.000 --> 00:03:14.666
Time to go home, dear Fox,
it\'s late.
00:03:14.667 --> 00:03:15.500
(gasping)
00:03:15.501 --> 00:03:18.207
- But you are safe here,
Hedgy, I swear.
00:03:18.208 --> 00:03:22.917
Please stay the night,
don\'t go anywhere.
00:03:23.375 --> 00:03:27.040
- I\'m grateful to you,
but I must decline.
00:03:27.041 --> 00:03:31.917
My own humble home
suits me just fine.
00:03:34.917 --> 00:03:38.707
(narrator): Under starryn
skies, he mutters with mirth,
00:03:38.708 --> 00:03:44.333
\"My own sweet home,
my heaven on earth.\"
00:03:46.291 --> 00:03:48.541
(wolf howling)
00:03:48.542 --> 00:03:52.040
- Damn! His love for home
must be a sham!
00:03:52.041 --> 00:03:55.124
It must be a castle,
shiny and huge!
00:03:55.125 --> 00:03:59.250
I have to go see
his precious refuge.
00:04:09.458 --> 00:04:10.125
(growling)
00:04:10.126 --> 00:04:12.916
- What\'s the hurry?
Now tell the old hound.
00:04:12.917 --> 00:04:16.582
Have you found a place
where sheep abound?
00:04:16.583 --> 00:04:17.333
(panting)
00:04:17.334 --> 00:04:20.457
- I\'m after Hedgehog,
\'cause I must find out
00:04:20.458 --> 00:04:22.874
what is his precious home
all about.
00:04:22.875 --> 00:04:26.374
- Home! That\'s foolish.
Who gives a damn?
00:04:26.375 --> 00:04:29.916
I\'d give up my den
for a juicy lamb.
00:04:29.917 --> 00:04:31.332
I\'m coming along.
00:04:31.333 --> 00:04:32.541
It will be cool
00:04:32.542 --> 00:04:36.166
to finally laugh at Hedgehog,
the fool.
00:04:38.208 --> 00:04:40.583
(panting)
00:04:45.458 --> 00:04:47.416
(grunting softly)
00:04:47.417 --> 00:04:50.124
- Hold on, what\'s the rush?
00:04:50.125 --> 00:04:51.041
I\'ll bet my money
00:04:51.042 --> 00:04:54.874
that you two have found
a river of honey.
00:04:54.875 --> 00:04:57.499
- It tickles my fancy.
What\'s the big deal
00:04:57.500 --> 00:05:00.833
why Hedgehog loves home
with such hearty zeal?
00:05:00.834 --> 00:05:03.624
- Home? What nonsense.
00:05:03.625 --> 00:05:04.833
Honestly, I swear,
00:05:04.834 --> 00:05:08.416
I\'d trade mine right now
for a rotten pear.
00:05:08.417 --> 00:05:10.666
I\'m coming along.
It will be cool
00:05:10.667 --> 00:05:15.541
to finally laugh at Hedgehog,
the fool!
00:05:15.542 --> 00:05:18.291
(panting)
00:05:20.959 --> 00:05:22.666
- Hmm-hmm-hmm.
00:05:22.667 --> 00:05:26.207
Where are you off to,
you furious bunch?
00:05:26.208 --> 00:05:30.040
Are all of you running
to a lavish lunch?
00:05:30.041 --> 00:05:33.624
- Ah, you mud-caked queen,
we\'re here on a quest.
00:05:33.625 --> 00:05:37.040
We want to find out
why Hedge loves his nest.
00:05:37.041 --> 00:05:40.833
- His nest!
I swear on the fat of my belly,
00:05:40.834 --> 00:05:44.749
I would swap my lair
for a bowl of jelly.
00:05:44.750 --> 00:05:48.124
I\'m coming along.
It will be cool
00:05:48.125 --> 00:05:52.834
to finally laugh at Hedgehog,
the fool.
00:05:53.917 --> 00:05:56.917
(panting)
(twigs snapping)
00:06:07.125 --> 00:06:10.000
(soft music)
00:06:24.250 --> 00:06:25.582
- Ah...
00:06:25.583 --> 00:06:27.833
my home, sweet home,
00:06:27.834 --> 00:06:29.624
where I feel free.
00:06:29.625 --> 00:06:33.416
You beautiful castle
with a wooden dome.
00:06:33.417 --> 00:06:36.332
My soft, leafy cradle,
00:06:36.333 --> 00:06:37.707
my only home.
00:06:37.708 --> 00:06:40.833
You are my kingdom,
my only stronghold.
00:06:40.834 --> 00:06:46.250
I would not trade you
for silver or gold.
00:06:46.583 --> 00:06:50.582
I live here in peace,
without any fears.
00:06:50.583 --> 00:06:54.999
I will defend you
with all of my spears.
00:06:55.000 --> 00:06:56.666
(animals chuckling)
00:06:56.667 --> 00:06:59.417
(laughter)
(rumbling)
00:07:01.041 --> 00:07:03.791
- Hedgehog, you fool,
you spiky troll,
00:07:03.792 --> 00:07:06.457
how can you like
this ugly hole?!
00:07:06.458 --> 00:07:09.582
- Your miserable shack
is worn out and old.
00:07:09.583 --> 00:07:13.165
Its roof is rotten
and the floor is cold.
00:07:13.166 --> 00:07:15.749
- It\'s a chicken coop,
smelly and bare,
00:07:15.750 --> 00:07:18.082
full of nasty fleas
creeping everywhere!
00:07:18.083 --> 00:07:21.249
(all): A home like yours,
you little boaster,
00:07:21.250 --> 00:07:24.959
we\'d trade any day
for a decent roaster!
00:07:33.333 --> 00:07:38.500
- Say what you want
about my home.
00:07:38.708 --> 00:07:41.874
I\'m safe and happy
under its dome.
00:07:41.875 --> 00:07:45.457
Simple and modest,
but it is all mine.
00:07:45.458 --> 00:07:47.749
I\'m free here and I feel fine.
00:07:47.750 --> 00:07:52.290
I work hard, I hunt,
and live with zest.
00:07:52.291 --> 00:07:55.124
Peace awaits me
in my precious nest.
00:07:55.125 --> 00:07:57.499
Only you scoundrels,
the laziest bunch,
00:07:57.500 --> 00:08:01.499
would give up your home
for a lousy lunch!
00:08:01.500 --> 00:08:04.874
You have no clue
what makes you rich.
00:08:04.875 --> 00:08:09.290
Someday very soon,
you\'ll end in a ditch!
00:08:09.291 --> 00:08:12.457
(narrator):
Fox listens carefully
00:08:12.458 --> 00:08:14.457
and says with insight:
00:08:14.458 --> 00:08:16.290
- I get it now.
00:08:16.291 --> 00:08:19.750
Hedgehog is right.
00:08:20.000 --> 00:08:23.124
(both): Hedgehog is wrong!
What he says isn\'t cool!
00:08:23.125 --> 00:08:25.958
And you too, Fox,
are a complete fool!
00:08:25.959 --> 00:08:29.542
(echoing): Fool, fool, fool...
00:08:30.291 --> 00:08:33.958
(narrator): What happens next?
How does it end?
00:08:33.959 --> 00:08:37.541
I\'ll tell you all about it,
my friend.
00:08:37.542 --> 00:08:40.165
The evil wolf,
during the pillage,
00:08:40.166 --> 00:08:43.374
got hunted down
by a whole village.
00:08:43.375 --> 00:08:46.666
The greedy bear,
in spite of his pleas,
00:08:46.667 --> 00:08:50.165
was stung to death
by angry bees.
00:08:50.166 --> 00:08:51.666
(buzzing)
(gunshot)
00:08:51.667 --> 00:08:53.624
And lastly, Wild Boar,
00:08:53.625 --> 00:08:55.290
the sinful beast,
00:08:55.291 --> 00:08:59.834
was served as a dish
at a lavish feast.
00:09:00.792 --> 00:09:05.624
Through tangled paths,
to the forest edge,
00:09:05.625 --> 00:09:07.874
still wanders and roams
00:09:07.875 --> 00:09:11.250
the great Hedgehog Hedge.
00:09:11.583 --> 00:09:14.833
The glorious master
of his humble dome,
00:09:14.834 --> 00:09:20.542
he worksn and guards his precious home.
00:09:56.000 --> 00:09:58.834
