In a maximum-security prison in Argentina, a boxer doggedly seeks his freedom. A group of guys dreams of one day making their millions. A young man comes in for killing his stepfather. The leader of the place has been sitting there for 30 years. Throughout, the same word is repeated: ‘rancho’, used with liberating flexibility. You call your friend ‘rancho’, you ‘ranch’ together.
Pedro Speroni’s prison portrait is a highly concentrated one, built entirely from the moments these men share while incarcerated. Their exchanges are intense: they joke about muggings, and about beating people to a pulp; they jostle and spar; they confide in quiet moments. Society puts up barriers that these men bounce against like balls in a pinball machine, all ending, ultimately, in the same place. What they create there together is their own kind of utopia: a closed environment with rules and norms of their own making.
“Speroni's film has a very different vibe from many prison documentaries, which often focus on the brutality and hopelessness of the situation. He, instead, captures a camaraderie which has morphed into something more positive in prison.” – Amber Wilkinson, Eye For Film

00:00:42.360 --> 00:00:44.400
"Rancho"
00:00:44.920 --> 00:00:49.000
Noun 1-A simple hut, covered with
branches or thatch, outside of town.
00:00:49.520 --> 00:00:52.280
Slang
2-A partner in crime.
00:00:52.680 --> 00:00:54.680
3-A fellow inmate.
00:00:55.080 --> 00:00:57.760
4-The location where
a robbery takes place .
00:00:58.080 --> 00:01:00.720
5-Food provided in a prison
to its inmates .
00:01:07.720 --> 00:01:12.640
Maximum security penitentiary.
Buenos Aires, Argentina.
00:01:35.160 --> 00:01:36.720
Would you?
00:01:44.520 --> 00:01:47.600
First thing tomorrow?
00:01:47.760 --> 00:01:49.240
Sure.
00:02:00.640 --> 00:02:04.200
He's merging both into one,
so I get 4 years.
00:02:04.520 --> 00:02:06.640
And the judge says
I did no time for the first one.
00:02:06.800 --> 00:02:09.320
-What?
-I did one and a half years!
00:02:09.880 --> 00:02:13.520
I stood up on the table and went,
“What the fuck?
00:02:14.000 --> 00:02:15.320
Listen up.
00:02:15.480 --> 00:02:19.120
This district attorney
is against me.
00:02:19.400 --> 00:02:21.160
He’s releasing rapos, murderers.”
00:02:21.320 --> 00:02:24.320
“I only have aggravated theft
and I can’t leave.
00:02:24.480 --> 00:02:25.760
I’m totally wired.
00:02:25.920 --> 00:02:30.440
I’d beat the shit out of him,
then I'd do time for a reason.
00:02:30.640 --> 00:02:32.840
But they've got to release me.
00:02:33.000 --> 00:02:34.920
Now you really pissed me off!"
00:02:35.080 --> 00:02:38.120
“But it's just two months
Bilbao, and you're free!”
00:02:38.320 --> 00:02:40.760
-Exactly!
-Right, motherfucker.
00:02:40.960 --> 00:02:44.560
“I want a deal, and
I want myself out.
00:02:44.880 --> 00:02:49.600
I can't stand seeing your face
or those from jail anymore.
00:02:50.040 --> 00:02:53.200
I've had it!
I want to be with my family!"
00:02:54.400 --> 00:02:56.640
The judge says:
“You're overreacting!”
00:02:56.800 --> 00:02:59.040
“What do you expect?
I’m a gentleman.
00:02:59.280 --> 00:03:03.520
I’m educated, I started boxing.
00:03:03.960 --> 00:03:07.240
You judges here are cutting
my boxing net.
00:03:07.600 --> 00:03:09.760
All of you.
00:03:09.920 --> 00:03:13.560
So I leave now and there's
no boxing for me,
00:03:13.720 --> 00:03:15.840
then back to stealing again.
00:03:17.080 --> 00:03:20.840
Why are you screwing my career?
I was boxing outside,
00:03:21.000 --> 00:03:23.000
I'm wasting my life here.
00:03:23.360 --> 00:03:27.800
You want me back in crime
so your pockets get full?
00:03:28.120 --> 00:03:31.720
Or I'd rather be with my family
back to boxing?
00:03:32.720 --> 00:03:36.720
I’m not a murderer or a rapist.
You’re releasing rapists.”
00:03:37.880 --> 00:03:39.120
-Just like that.
-What did he say?
00:03:39.360 --> 00:03:40.560
Right there.
00:03:42.440 --> 00:03:44.040
They’re crazy.
00:03:44.720 --> 00:03:49.480
That’s how it is, mate.
They’re pushing it, right
00:03:54.400 --> 00:03:56.480
-Soccer, Eze?
-What?
00:03:56.640 --> 00:03:58.720
How about some soccer?
00:03:58.720 --> 00:03:59.800
What?
00:04:00.400 --> 00:04:01.480
Yeah?
00:04:44.760 --> 00:04:46.560
If I'm offered a gig like that,
00:04:46.720 --> 00:04:48.960
and like you,
I'm not robbing again...
00:04:49.160 --> 00:04:52.320
-I'm not sure about that..
-You have to, rancho.
00:04:53.680 --> 00:04:56.680
I don't know, I can’t say for sure.
00:04:56.920 --> 00:04:59.160
You don’t know what you’ll
come across out there.
00:04:59.320 --> 00:05:01.400
-I do know.
-Okay.
00:05:01.560 --> 00:05:03.800
I know I'll work.
00:05:04.960 --> 00:05:07.640
Remember, Fatso, our robbery sprees?
00:05:07.800 --> 00:05:08.640
Yeah.
00:05:08.800 --> 00:05:11.800
G ride, boom, rob and rob,
rancho and rancho.
00:05:12.160 --> 00:05:14.440
We had green light.
It’s full of pigs now.
00:05:15.640 --> 00:05:17.120
Everything's changed.
00:05:17.720 --> 00:05:20.520
Now it's heavy, rancho,
alarms and pigs all around,
00:05:20.680 --> 00:05:22.600
we could do our way, rancho!
00:05:23.560 --> 00:05:27.400
I ran into you breaking in, Fatso.
00:05:27.840 --> 00:05:29.880
Right, “El Mate”.
00:05:30.240 --> 00:05:32.280
-When I robbed “El Mate”.
-No idea.
00:05:33.080 --> 00:05:35.840
-It was “El Mate”, man, that shop.
-I saw you.
00:05:36.280 --> 00:05:39.720
They all wanted to rob that,
and I did it with Jona...
00:05:39.880 --> 00:05:41.880
I saw you pulling up the shutters.
00:05:42.040 --> 00:05:47.000
We thought we'd break in that way,
but didn't.
00:05:48.200 --> 00:05:53.520
We turned round the corner,
because we saw
00:05:54.000 --> 00:05:57.800
there was a fence
with a whole empty lot
00:05:57.960 --> 00:06:01.000
and a massive shed in the back.
00:06:01.160 --> 00:06:05.640
I look it up and it was right behind
the house of “el Mate”.
00:06:05.800 --> 00:06:08.240
We checked that on the map,
00:06:08.600 --> 00:06:12.320
we looked all over the house
on the satellite map.
00:06:14.440 --> 00:06:17.960
We jump over the fence,
and a car drives in.
00:06:18.640 --> 00:06:23.280
The car comes in, and we were
on the side by the fence,
00:06:23.440 --> 00:06:26.720
behind some bushes,
and the car slowly approaches.
00:06:26.920 --> 00:06:30.200
We let him get out and close...
00:06:30.560 --> 00:06:34.000
He gets in the car
and goes all the way to the back.
00:06:34.160 --> 00:06:37.400
I ran after the car crouching.
00:06:37.680 --> 00:06:41.600
Then he’s about to get off,
we move to the side of the car.
00:06:41.840 --> 00:06:46.440
He closes the fence, opens the door
and we jump on him.
00:06:47.360 --> 00:06:50.560
-He didn’t see you coming?
-Didn’t see me, mate.
00:07:40.120 --> 00:07:42.320
Come on, get naked!
00:07:45.120 --> 00:07:47.800
Keep your underwear on.
00:07:47.960 --> 00:07:49.760
So many years defending my ass!
00:07:49.920 --> 00:07:52.480
Wait, dude, I have soap in my eye.
00:08:01.000 --> 00:08:02.720
Come on.
00:08:03.360 --> 00:08:04.680
Come, mate.
00:08:04.840 --> 00:08:06.800
Conditioner and I’m done.
00:08:16.760 --> 00:08:18.880
Have you always been
in the clink nearby?
00:08:19.440 --> 00:08:22.080
My second time was in 2000,
00:08:22.400 --> 00:08:24.840
I stayed three years
and then was absolved.
00:08:25.000 --> 00:08:28.960
Three years, I had a tendon tear
and couldn’t run no more.
00:08:29.320 --> 00:08:32.680
-And after that?
-Then, Sierra.
00:08:32.880 --> 00:08:34.640
And after Sierra?
00:08:34.800 --> 00:08:37.240
Batán, where I behaved.
00:08:38.000 --> 00:08:41.840
-Were you in Batán for a while?
-Like 16 years or so.
00:08:42.640 --> 00:08:44.240
Then Devoto.
00:08:44.840 --> 00:08:46.920
After that...
00:08:47.520 --> 00:08:51.200
...I don’t remember.
I was here and there, but...
00:08:51.360 --> 00:08:54.520
...I did time in La Nueva too.
00:08:55.000 --> 00:08:57.920
-Where that prison?
-In La Plata.
00:08:58.120 --> 00:09:02.560
-How long, one, two years?
-Almost two years.
00:09:03.600 --> 00:09:05.120
But it was nice, I liked it there.
00:09:05.320 --> 00:09:07.560
That place is huge, right? Huge!
00:09:07.760 --> 00:09:10.480
-Are you listening to yourself?
-I mean, it’s nice...
00:09:10.640 --> 00:09:12.560
Motherfucker! “It’s nice!”.
00:09:13.280 --> 00:09:16.600
It's the clink, dog,
you expected a palace?
00:09:16.760 --> 00:09:18.440
It's the clink!
00:09:18.600 --> 00:09:21.200
-There's no "nice" one.
-Stop stealing then.
00:09:21.440 --> 00:09:24.320
Not Sierra, Olmos...none of them.
00:09:24.480 --> 00:09:27.560
This dog is such a dick!
00:09:27.880 --> 00:09:31.000
-He loves prison!
-He’s a smartass. He’s the best.
00:09:31.160 --> 00:09:32.960
He’s a big-time cocksucker,
this asshole dog.
00:09:33.120 --> 00:09:35.760
-This asshole loves prison.
-No, I don’t.
00:09:35.760 --> 00:09:37.640
“It’s nice, it’s beautiful.”
00:09:37.800 --> 00:09:41.080
“I’m doing time. I want a palace.”
00:09:41.320 --> 00:09:45.560
I mean “nice” like you’re not living
in the filth like in other places.
00:09:45.560 --> 00:09:47.440
Blow me.
00:09:47.520 --> 00:09:51.080
-You love prison.
-You don’t? You’re here too.
00:09:51.080 --> 00:09:53.360
-Thirty years in prison.
-And you?
00:09:53.360 --> 00:09:56.800
When have you heard me say
this prison is beautiful?
00:09:56.920 --> 00:09:59.240
So beautiful, it looks so nice...
00:09:59.240 --> 00:10:01.160
Let’s paint it
so it looks even better.
00:10:01.320 --> 00:10:02.800
When have I said that? Never.
00:10:02.960 --> 00:10:06.160
Living in the filth
doesn’t bother you.
00:10:06.360 --> 00:10:09.600
This is prison! For you, it’s home!
00:10:09.760 --> 00:10:12.640
You’ve spent more time here
than out, asshole.
00:10:12.800 --> 00:10:15.800
And out I live better than you too,
I have my house.
00:10:15.960 --> 00:10:17.560
-I dunno.
-I dunno.
00:10:18.120 --> 00:10:20.760
Any doubts?
00:10:20.920 --> 00:10:23.360
You would come
to me to go out robbing.
00:10:23.520 --> 00:10:25.680
To you? No way, moron.
00:10:25.840 --> 00:10:27.640
You are such a dog, dog.
00:10:27.800 --> 00:10:30.960
Your hubby left,
you’re crying for my cock.
00:10:31.280 --> 00:10:35.480
-They’re fighting now.
-He’s a broken dog, and bitter too.
00:10:35.840 --> 00:10:38.200
Come on. Two more!
00:10:38.560 --> 00:10:42.120
Again. Come on. Punch.
00:10:42.320 --> 00:10:43.600
Switch.
00:10:43.760 --> 00:10:45.800
Get your hand out.
Move, come on!
00:10:46.000 --> 00:10:46.800
Switch!
00:10:46.960 --> 00:10:49.640
Do it! Hard...
00:10:51.680 --> 00:10:55.640
Until you get it right,
one and two. Punch.
00:10:55.800 --> 00:10:58.360
Hand out, come on.
Switch. Good!
00:10:58.520 --> 00:11:00.800
The waist. The waist, champ.
00:11:00.800 --> 00:11:02.280
Work it inside.
00:11:02.440 --> 00:11:03.880
Switch. Come on.
00:11:07.520 --> 00:11:09.800
Come on. Out.
00:11:09.920 --> 00:11:11.920
Now walk!
00:11:11.920 --> 00:11:14.440
Good, right there.
00:11:14.600 --> 00:11:15.840
Go, now.
00:11:15.840 --> 00:11:17.520
One, two and cross.
00:11:17.920 --> 00:11:20.120
Very good.
00:11:20.520 --> 00:11:24.160
Switch your stance a bit,
try the other side.
00:11:24.560 --> 00:11:26.720
Left. Use the left.
00:11:27.440 --> 00:11:30.000
Fights are won with the left,
come on.
00:11:30.160 --> 00:11:32.000
Put your back into it.
00:11:32.160 --> 00:11:33.200
Walk, punch.
00:11:33.360 --> 00:11:35.840
You’re fighting. Very good.
00:11:35.840 --> 00:11:38.680
Come on. All the way with your left.
00:11:38.840 --> 00:11:40.200
Switch.
00:11:40.360 --> 00:11:42.520
Don’t jump. Save your energy.
00:11:42.840 --> 00:11:45.440
Legs on the ground.
00:11:45.640 --> 00:11:48.400
Let's dancers jump, you fight.
00:11:49.960 --> 00:11:52.240
There’s ten to go, come on.
00:11:52.640 --> 00:11:57.360
Come on, scum.
Get your hand out!
00:11:58.720 --> 00:12:00.640
Time out.
00:12:00.800 --> 00:12:03.680
There you go. Very good.
00:12:06.280 --> 00:12:08.360
Come. Here.
00:12:08.520 --> 00:12:11.160
Have some water. Very good.
00:12:28.240 --> 00:12:31.560
-You shot him dead?
-No, I stabbed him.
00:12:31.760 --> 00:12:34.360
-What?
-With a blade, mate.
00:12:36.160 --> 00:12:38.800
You killed him good.
00:12:42.240 --> 00:12:45.800
I’m saying I’m innocent.
00:12:49.440 --> 00:12:53.240
Isn’t it called a fit-of-rage murder
or something like that?
00:12:53.600 --> 00:12:57.640
Actually, yeah,
but they made it worse.
00:13:00.120 --> 00:13:03.320
-How is it? Fit-of-rage?
-I asked for that.
00:13:03.520 --> 00:13:07.480
-Right. That’s what happened.
-No, there was more to it.
00:13:08.360 --> 00:13:10.840
-Malice aforethought?
-No, premeditation.
00:13:11.120 --> 00:13:13.520
I got 14 years.
00:13:13.880 --> 00:13:15.720
-Minimum is 8.
-That’s nothing.
00:13:15.880 --> 00:13:17.840
No, I know...
00:13:18.640 --> 00:13:20.600
...but that’s gotta change.
00:13:20.760 --> 00:13:23.520
I’ll see the judge on Thursday.
00:13:26.760 --> 00:13:27.680
It’s a long time.
00:13:27.840 --> 00:13:30.160
But I deserved way longer, mate.
00:13:30.720 --> 00:13:33.120
-Way longer.
-Like, 20 years.
00:13:33.400 --> 00:13:35.040
He asked for life sentence.
00:13:35.640 --> 00:13:37.320
For me and my mom.
00:13:37.480 --> 00:13:38.800
She's in jail too?
00:13:39.000 --> 00:13:40.520
She left after the trial,
00:13:40.680 --> 00:13:43.400
but we were in jail together
for 2 1/2 years.
00:13:50.920 --> 00:13:54.920
I was declared guilty at court.
00:13:56.120 --> 00:13:59.320
But they have nothing against me.
00:14:00.840 --> 00:14:03.520
Over 100 witnesses
and no one can say
00:14:03.680 --> 00:14:06.400
I was there at that time.
00:14:08.200 --> 00:14:10.200
I dunno.
00:14:11.760 --> 00:14:17.760
But they keep me in
because I didn't testify.
00:14:21.760 --> 00:14:23.400
Anyways...
00:14:25.960 --> 00:14:29.400
At least my mom got out,
I got her out.
00:14:32.560 --> 00:14:34.360
My siblings are just kids, dude,
00:14:34.520 --> 00:14:37.840
they were on their own,
by the street, for 2 1/2 years.
00:14:42.480 --> 00:14:46.080
My mom was released
a couple of months ago.
00:14:47.720 --> 00:14:49.640
You're a couple
of months ahead, right?
00:14:49.800 --> 00:14:52.520
Me? Three years.
00:14:54.560 --> 00:14:57.280
Three years, I got 14...
00:14:57.840 --> 00:15:00.920
In four years,
I’m getting a temporary release.
00:15:01.080 --> 00:15:03.240
-That’s nothing.
-Right.
00:15:04.280 --> 00:15:06.400
I was 19 when they caught me.
00:15:07.040 --> 00:15:09.120
My life was starting.
00:15:24.400 --> 00:15:26.240
Cool movie.
00:15:56.200 --> 00:15:58.160
An admission.
00:16:03.240 --> 00:16:06.520
We’ll assign you a bed.
00:16:08.680 --> 00:16:10.680
Give me your bag.
00:16:19.600 --> 00:16:20.640
Excuse me.
00:16:21.120 --> 00:16:24.240
-How are you doing? Artaza.
-Nice to meet you.
00:16:24.560 --> 00:16:26.120
My friend is in maintenance too.
00:16:26.280 --> 00:16:27.920
Nice to meet you, Mr. Artaza.
00:16:28.080 --> 00:16:29.360
So, man of honor?
00:16:30.040 --> 00:16:31.960
Yes, he is a real man of honor.
00:16:32.480 --> 00:16:35.320
-Right, he recommended you.
-Yes, he did.
00:16:35.960 --> 00:16:40.120
I’ll give you a job at the workshop
so you can get by.
00:16:40.360 --> 00:16:41.800
-Great.
-That's first, second
00:16:42.080 --> 00:16:43.600
I want no lazy asses here.
00:16:43.760 --> 00:16:46.640
-I don’t smoke or drink.
-No,that's your problem,
00:16:46.680 --> 00:16:48.800
I don’t want lazy asses here.
00:16:48.960 --> 00:16:51.840
If you work, it's everyday,
not 1 every 5 days.
00:16:52.320 --> 00:16:55.880
No, I’m a hard worker.
My goal was to come here to work.
00:16:56.040 --> 00:16:59.200
Good, so you can buy your things.
Support yourself.
00:16:59.560 --> 00:17:01.800
-Right.
-Good behavior is key here.
00:17:01.800 --> 00:17:03.920
I don’t want you
to listen to the brats.
00:17:04.080 --> 00:17:05.280
You know how they are.
00:17:05.440 --> 00:17:08.480
-They’re kids. Barely talk to them.
-Yes.
00:17:08.760 --> 00:17:11.920
If you have a problem
just talk to us.
00:17:12.080 --> 00:17:13.120
That's it.
00:17:13.920 --> 00:17:15.760
We’re good workmates here.
00:17:15.920 --> 00:17:19.680
And we all do
the cleaning of the block.
00:17:19.840 --> 00:17:22.000
I’m the coordinator, not a cleaner.
00:17:22.160 --> 00:17:23.440
We all do the cleaning.
00:17:23.880 --> 00:17:25.920
We take turns to clean up the block.
00:17:26.120 --> 00:17:29.480
We’ll make a schedule,
whoever is free, cleans up.
00:17:30.200 --> 00:17:32.160
We'll make it work.
00:17:32.520 --> 00:17:33.840
Step by step.
00:17:34.520 --> 00:17:37.240
-No drugs or alcohol.
-Zero.
00:17:37.720 --> 00:17:39.120
-Perfect.
-Zero.
00:17:39.360 --> 00:17:41.720
I've never smoked a cigarette.
00:17:42.040 --> 00:17:43.640
No drugs, no alcohol.
00:17:43.960 --> 00:17:45.480
That’s great.
00:17:46.080 --> 00:17:49.360
Mr. Artaza, I really
appreciate this opportunity.
00:17:49.600 --> 00:17:53.000
I wanted to work, but there were
no vacancies until now.
00:17:53.160 --> 00:17:54.200
Thank you too.
00:17:54.360 --> 00:17:57.360
I knew you did, but there's
so much people here!
00:17:57.520 --> 00:18:00.360
And I don’t like having people
lying on the floor.
00:18:00.680 --> 00:18:03.640
It’s cold and all that.
00:18:04.160 --> 00:18:08.560
This block is a transitional block.
So you can leave.
00:18:08.800 --> 00:18:10.400
That's my goal, if I'm lucky...
00:18:10.560 --> 00:18:13.480
-My attorney is trying to...
-From here to the street.
00:18:13.720 --> 00:18:16.680
This is a transitional block.
it’s in the name.
00:18:40.200 --> 00:18:42.440
-Does it hurt?
-Yes, right there.
00:18:44.960 --> 00:18:47.920
Dude, my stomach is covered
with tattoos,
00:18:48.080 --> 00:18:49.880
you can't imagine my pain!
00:18:50.160 --> 00:18:52.240
You gotta be
really high to get that!
00:18:52.440 --> 00:18:54.440
-Totally fried.
-Totally.
00:19:41.320 --> 00:19:43.480
I was just tattooing.
00:19:43.760 --> 00:19:45.640
-You have any cookies?
-No, rancho.
00:19:45.920 --> 00:19:48.320
-For the caramel?
-No.
00:19:56.360 --> 00:19:58.480
All good, buddy?
00:20:08.040 --> 00:20:09.360
It’s cold, right?
00:20:17.840 --> 00:20:19.920
The guy was all covered in blood,
00:20:20.080 --> 00:20:22.440
I peed on him,
burned him with a cigarette
00:20:22.640 --> 00:20:24.840
he humiliated him for six hours.
00:20:27.560 --> 00:20:30.120
He tried to trick me, so...
00:20:30.560 --> 00:20:33.640
-I sent him to buy a gold ring.
-He peed on him.
00:20:33.800 --> 00:20:36.320
I gave him money,
and the guy lied to me.
00:20:36.480 --> 00:20:38.480
He lost the money wagering.
00:20:38.880 --> 00:20:40.560
I was totally wired, doing blow.
00:20:40.800 --> 00:20:44.080
He fucked me up.
I thought, “He’s a piece of shit.”
00:20:44.280 --> 00:20:46.280
I let him go.
00:20:46.440 --> 00:20:49.240
I said: “You screwed me,
get lost.”
00:20:49.480 --> 00:20:50.920
I let him roll.
00:20:51.120 --> 00:20:53.480
Everyone was:
“He screwed Iván big time.”
00:20:53.640 --> 00:20:56.720
“Iván let him get away with it,
that's weird.”
00:20:57.120 --> 00:21:00.360
Two months later,
some night I ran into him.
00:21:00.680 --> 00:21:03.360
-"How about a beer"?
-"Sure!"
00:21:03.520 --> 00:21:05.680
So we went to my place.
00:21:05.880 --> 00:21:09.040
My sister’s thinking
“He’ll do something to him”.
00:21:09.480 --> 00:21:16.240
So I stick a gun into his mouth
and throw him on the ground.
00:21:17.160 --> 00:21:19.960
I go: “I’m quietly having dinner
with my girl,”
00:21:20.120 --> 00:21:22.160
I take a drag on my cigarette,
00:21:22.480 --> 00:21:25.200
“and I have to go through
all this trouble,
00:21:25.360 --> 00:21:28.000
just to show people
the shit I can be with fuckers."
00:21:29.720 --> 00:21:31.920
-Humiliated for life.
-I swear.
00:21:32.080 --> 00:21:35.880
It’s like being hit by a gun,
peed on, and punched.
00:21:36.040 --> 00:21:37.280
“Meet the mafia,” I said.
00:21:37.440 --> 00:21:40.760
“Fat Kangaroo”,
was there with some other 15 people.
00:21:40.960 --> 00:21:44.040
“Take a good look at this,
nobody messes with me.
00:21:44.200 --> 00:21:47.080
This is everyone
who tries to screw me.”
00:21:47.240 --> 00:21:49.240
I kicked and peed all over his face.
00:21:49.400 --> 00:21:51.520
Fatso was: "Iván, don't!”
00:21:51.680 --> 00:21:54.440
"Hey, Fatso, you just left jail
and this scares you?", I said.
00:21:55.800 --> 00:21:59.320
I burned him with a cig.
“Get me some blow,” I said.
00:21:59.480 --> 00:22:03.400
“This is what you wanted,”
and I sprayed coke on him.
00:22:03.760 --> 00:22:06.320
He was burned, peed on,
his head kicked.
00:22:06.680 --> 00:22:08.400
Stuck my gun into his mouth.
00:22:08.400 --> 00:22:11.920
I found him on the street
when he’d had a fight with his wife.
00:22:11.920 --> 00:22:13.480
He stayed at my place.
00:22:13.640 --> 00:22:15.400
I asked for a favor
and he fucked me.
00:22:15.800 --> 00:22:17.760
-He didn’t care.
-He didn’t.
00:22:17.920 --> 00:22:20.000
-He deserved it.
-For sure.
00:22:20.160 --> 00:22:23.320
-And in front of other people.
-I’d cut his ear off.
00:23:00.760 --> 00:23:02.920
-Come on, Fatso.
-Hit his ankle.
00:23:03.080 --> 00:23:04.800
-Drop the ball, Fatso.
-Hit his ankle.
00:23:52.280 --> 00:23:54.320
What are you dogs up to?
00:23:56.480 --> 00:23:58.240
Can you handle it, you two?
00:23:58.720 --> 00:24:00.040
Can you?
00:24:02.160 --> 00:24:04.200
-Bomb.
-Can you handle it?
00:24:05.320 --> 00:24:07.040
Bomb.
00:24:07.200 --> 00:24:10.280
Son of a bitch!
00:24:12.600 --> 00:24:16.240
Two toads in the water!
00:24:38.920 --> 00:24:41.840
These tweezers
are old but still work.
00:24:43.200 --> 00:24:45.320
They´re well-calibrated.
00:24:46.640 --> 00:24:48.280
I saw how they lived...
00:24:48.440 --> 00:24:51.640
-Did he hit her?
-Yes.
00:24:52.280 --> 00:24:56.360
-The guy hit her?
-Sometimes, it was but mostly
00:24:56.520 --> 00:25:00.800
-psychological abuse.
-Verbal?
00:25:01.240 --> 00:25:07.760
My mom was living like in a cage
and he dominated her.
00:25:11.720 --> 00:25:13.720
Even the kids suffered.
00:25:14.040 --> 00:25:15.920
He didn’t want a wife
but a slave.
00:25:16.080 --> 00:25:19.200
He wanted a trophy, a trophy family.
00:25:19.480 --> 00:25:23.080
My mom would step out
to swipe the floor,
00:25:23.080 --> 00:25:29.080
and he would get pissed because
she was on the sidewalk.
00:25:29.200 --> 00:25:31.040
Like she was outside?
00:25:31.200 --> 00:25:34.520
Yeah, who can you fuck
in the sidewalk?
00:25:34.760 --> 00:25:38.920
-He was crazy, a wacko.
-Sure.
00:25:40.240 --> 00:25:41.920
I don’t know why he’d do that.
00:25:42.080 --> 00:25:44.360
He wasn’t bad,
but he did those things.
00:25:44.520 --> 00:25:47.320
The day it happened...
00:25:47.320 --> 00:25:51.520
-How did you get to...?
-I’d go to my mom’s everyday
00:25:51.680 --> 00:25:55.920
What led you to think
and do what you did?
00:25:56.680 --> 00:25:59.000
I didn’t think about it.
00:25:59.160 --> 00:26:02.840
You didn’t plan for it.
It wasn’t premeditated.
00:26:03.000 --> 00:26:06.600
They labeled it as premeditated,
but I had no plan.
00:26:09.440 --> 00:26:14.520
I saw things, but didn’t know
what was happening.
00:26:15.000 --> 00:26:19.040
And I get there and I see the guy
hitting my mom.
00:26:19.520 --> 00:26:23.680
I tried to protect her...
00:26:24.280 --> 00:26:28.640
He had my mom
by the neck on the bed.
00:26:28.920 --> 00:26:31.280
And I went nuts.
00:26:32.200 --> 00:26:36.520
I’d had it. He raised me
ever since I was a kid.
00:26:37.000 --> 00:26:39.000
And I knew what he did.
00:26:39.800 --> 00:26:42.360
I felt like stepping in many times.
00:26:42.520 --> 00:26:44.400
But my mom'd go:
00:26:44.640 --> 00:26:46.960
“Stay out of it,
it's a couple thing.”
00:26:47.120 --> 00:26:53.800
My parents never hit each other.
00:26:54.120 --> 00:26:56.880
They had the typical arguing,
maybe some cursing.
00:26:57.360 --> 00:27:01.200
This guy was almost killing my mom.
00:27:01.760 --> 00:27:04.080
Thank God I was there that day.
00:27:05.600 --> 00:27:07.320
Thank God, I was.
00:27:08.480 --> 00:27:11.360
That’s crazy. “Thank God,”
and look where you are now.
00:27:11.520 --> 00:27:15.200
Right, but otherwise my mom
wouldn’t be alive, dude.
00:27:16.040 --> 00:27:21.200
Yeah, right, I just mean,
how far you had to go.
00:27:21.480 --> 00:27:26.400
Listen... I was a little boy,
and I got this slingshot for birds.
00:27:27.240 --> 00:27:31.920
So I shot it and hit a dove,
and I killed it.
00:27:32.520 --> 00:27:36.840
I picked it up, and went home:
“Mom, I killed a dove,”
00:27:37.040 --> 00:27:40.440
I cried for like half an hour. .
00:27:40.880 --> 00:27:45.160
Go figure. No more doves for me.
00:27:45.440 --> 00:27:49.080
But I ended up killing a person.
Go figure.
00:27:49.400 --> 00:27:52.520
To be honest, I regret it.
00:27:52.840 --> 00:27:57.680
For good or bad,
he was the father of my siblings.
00:27:58.000 --> 00:28:02.040
My mom and dad had three children,
00:28:02.200 --> 00:28:05.680
my older siblings and me,
and then separated.
00:28:06.720 --> 00:28:10.360
It was an amicable breakup.
00:28:10.520 --> 00:28:16.920
And he would come,
spend time with us...
00:28:17.960 --> 00:28:22.120
Then he met a girl,
and my mom met this other guy
00:28:23.560 --> 00:28:26.160
And my dad’s woman was jealous
00:28:26.320 --> 00:28:30.160
because she thought
he was still into my mom.
00:28:32.720 --> 00:28:35.440
He came to see us everyday.
00:28:35.600 --> 00:28:37.960
One day, my dad
was driving his motorcycle.
00:28:38.120 --> 00:28:39.520
When he got home,
00:28:39.720 --> 00:28:44.680
she was waiting for him
with this rifle he had.
00:28:45.600 --> 00:28:49.160
She waited behind the door
and shot him.
00:28:49.320 --> 00:28:52.960
I have no hard feelings
like I used to.
00:28:53.400 --> 00:28:57.360
I did have them at first,
“My dad was taken away.”
00:28:57.520 --> 00:29:00.520
And I wanted to kill her.
00:29:01.320 --> 00:29:05.960
I mean, I hated her.
I hated that woman.
00:29:06.120 --> 00:29:09.280
-You wanted to kill her?
-Right.
00:29:09.640 --> 00:29:13.560
-You were becoming the same thing.
-Right.
00:29:13.720 --> 00:29:17.400
It’s like fighting cannibalism
by wolfing down the cannibal.
00:29:17.560 --> 00:29:19.320
And finally...
00:29:19.440 --> 00:29:23.440
...lately I've been thinking,
I became that person, man.
00:29:23.600 --> 00:29:27.240
It’s me who took
my little sibling’s dad away.
00:29:27.640 --> 00:29:30.800
Should they hate me?
00:30:38.160 --> 00:30:39.800
This is for Marcelito.
00:30:39.960 --> 00:30:43.200
This one’s for Fatso, Matías.
00:30:50.320 --> 00:30:51.800
Is there any juice?
00:30:51.960 --> 00:30:54.600
-Yes.
-Matías has some.
00:30:56.360 --> 00:30:59.400
-I like cooking, Coco.
-I see.
00:31:11.880 --> 00:31:14.160
Excuse me.
00:31:22.840 --> 00:31:24.680
-Enjoy.
-Thanks.
00:31:24.840 --> 00:31:26.840
-Did you go to choir?
-Yes.
00:31:27.120 --> 00:31:29.120
I invited you and you ignored me.
00:31:29.360 --> 00:31:33.040
I’ve been up since 7 am.
00:31:35.040 --> 00:31:39.240
Just me and Zelaya sang.
Termi didn't show up.
00:31:39.840 --> 00:31:41.920
I couldn’t get out of bed today.
00:31:44.560 --> 00:31:46.360
What were you looking for
last night?
00:31:46.520 --> 00:31:47.680
Something for your feet?
00:31:47.960 --> 00:31:49.640
No, for ear pain.
00:31:51.080 --> 00:31:53.440
-That’s bad.
-I know.
00:33:20.960 --> 00:33:23.320
Want some paracetamol?
00:33:23.480 --> 00:33:25.280
No, I’m good. Thanks, buddy.
00:33:25.280 --> 00:33:27.600
Yeah, good.
00:34:44.000 --> 00:34:45.680
Excuse me.
00:34:50.880 --> 00:34:53.640
...ten, eleven, twelve...
00:35:13.080 --> 00:35:15.560
-I have asked...
-I mean your issues.
00:35:15.840 --> 00:35:18.400
-I’ve asked for...
-Psych help?
00:35:18.600 --> 00:35:21.920
I talked to the lady
and she asked what about.
00:35:22.600 --> 00:35:25.880
I said, “Nothing bad happened
to me in here,
00:35:26.040 --> 00:35:29.680
but I had problems outside,
a ton and quite nasty.”
00:35:29.840 --> 00:35:33.240
I lost a brother,
he was killed in front of my house.
00:35:33.840 --> 00:35:39.800
I lost my mom,
she was shot in the neck.
00:35:40.960 --> 00:35:45.880
My uncle was riddled with bullets.
00:35:46.400 --> 00:35:50.720
He was killed.
It was all score-settling.
00:35:51.000 --> 00:35:55.160
My 12-year-old sister
was left all alone.
00:35:57.760 --> 00:36:01.080
How long have you been imprisoned,
and what's the allegation?
00:36:01.240 --> 00:36:05.640
I’m here for murder,
five years and five months so far.
00:36:05.840 --> 00:36:09.840
-Have you been sentenced?
-Yes, three years ago.
00:36:10.240 --> 00:36:14.720
No, one year and two months.
00:36:15.240 --> 00:36:18.480
-And your sentence is for...?
-Fifteen years.
00:36:20.760 --> 00:36:22.600
Second degree murder?
00:36:22.960 --> 00:36:26.400
Premeditated murder
with concurrence of offenses.
00:36:27.280 --> 00:36:32.160
-Is this your first sentence?
-I had one for theft,
00:36:33.040 --> 00:36:37.520
which, after my time here,
would be served.
00:36:38.560 --> 00:36:40.920
When was that?
00:36:41.080 --> 00:36:44.760
That was five months
before this happened.
00:36:44.960 --> 00:36:47.840
-How old are you now?
-I’m 25.
00:36:50.080 --> 00:36:54.280
-Were you prosecuted as a minor?
-Yes.
00:36:54.680 --> 00:36:56.440
Yes...
00:36:57.440 --> 00:37:01.400
...for aggravated robbery,
00:37:03.560 --> 00:37:05.040
with a deadly weapon.
00:37:08.960 --> 00:37:11.320
How did you get into crime?
00:37:11.480 --> 00:37:13.880
How was your reality?
00:37:14.640 --> 00:37:16.800
At home...
00:37:17.320 --> 00:37:22.160
...there was me, my mom
and my two siblings.
00:37:22.320 --> 00:37:23.920
We are six siblings,
00:37:24.360 --> 00:37:27.760
but the oldest two
always lived with their father.
00:37:28.360 --> 00:37:33.040
My mom always worked
to support us.
00:37:33.840 --> 00:37:36.280
-Your dad?
-My dad...
00:37:37.280 --> 00:37:40.680
It was me who always visited him.
00:37:41.280 --> 00:37:47.080
It was up to me.
He just gave me his name.
00:37:47.360 --> 00:37:50.520
-You didn’t grow up with him?
-No.
00:37:50.720 --> 00:37:53.480
And during my time here,
he never came to see me.
00:37:54.160 --> 00:37:56.360
Do you know where he is?
What he does?
00:37:56.920 --> 00:37:58.640
Yeah. I call him sometimes.
00:37:58.800 --> 00:38:01.080
-You wanted to approach him.
-Yes, even today
00:38:01.240 --> 00:38:05.600
I call him, because
I need to talk to him.
00:38:05.960 --> 00:38:09.640
If it were up to him,
I would know nothing.
00:38:09.920 --> 00:38:15.280
So who was
the father figure for you?
00:38:15.640 --> 00:38:17.120
My stepdad.
00:38:20.120 --> 00:38:22.840
My younger siblings’ father.
00:38:23.160 --> 00:38:24.880
Yes, my stepdad.
00:38:25.040 --> 00:38:26.640
He was good to us.
00:38:26.840 --> 00:38:30.520
But my mom
went through a lot with him.
00:38:30.760 --> 00:38:34.240
He would beat her
until we were older.
00:38:35.200 --> 00:38:38.280
And then he never hit her again.
00:38:38.720 --> 00:38:42.920
They would argue, but that was it.
00:38:44.000 --> 00:38:46.480
-Did you witness violence?
-Yes.
00:38:46.640 --> 00:38:48.960
Towards your mom
and you children too?
00:38:49.240 --> 00:38:53.200
Yes, because when he'd
hit her,
00:38:53.360 --> 00:38:58.000
my mom would take it out on us,
we were the underdog.
00:39:08.080 --> 00:39:15.800
To survive
I need a new world as a guide
00:39:16.080 --> 00:39:21.880
To survive
Along the road of peace I will drive
00:39:22.280 --> 00:39:26.320
Hoping that happiness will arrive
00:39:48.800 --> 00:39:51.200
Hello? This is Bilbao, ma’am.
00:39:51.880 --> 00:39:56.920
Good, waiting. I was told
there were gonna be news this week.
00:39:59.800 --> 00:40:03.040
Yeah, she told me.
They took me to court.
00:40:03.200 --> 00:40:04.840
They found everything.
00:40:05.000 --> 00:40:07.240
It’s proven that
I had done some time,
00:40:07.440 --> 00:40:11.040
but they still don’t have
the dates. Right.
00:40:16.720 --> 00:40:18.600
Yeah. I know.
00:40:19.240 --> 00:40:23.320
She said: “I hope you get lucky
before judicial recess.”
00:40:24.880 --> 00:40:28.320
She told me, “I hope you get lucky
before judicial recess.”
00:40:28.800 --> 00:40:30.920
She said that, see?
00:40:31.120 --> 00:40:34.400
So I was confident.
But, okay, I’ll wait.
00:40:35.000 --> 00:40:36.280
Yes?
00:40:37.920 --> 00:40:39.960
What did she say?
00:40:44.840 --> 00:40:46.920
Yeah, we’ll open a gym.
00:40:47.720 --> 00:40:51.680
My son is scoring
on every match.
00:40:53.400 --> 00:40:54.640
Yeah.
00:40:54.880 --> 00:40:56.840
Well, thank you so much.
00:40:58.200 --> 00:41:01.200
Alright. Thank you, ma’am. Bye.
00:41:04.960 --> 00:41:06.520
What’s up, buddy?
00:41:14.920 --> 00:41:16.720
I spoke to the public prosecutor.
00:41:16.880 --> 00:41:21.080
She told me not to rush
or I'll mess up.
00:41:21.240 --> 00:41:23.640
Until they find the report.
00:41:23.640 --> 00:41:26.800
The time is settled, it’s 18 months.
I have to wait.
00:41:26.800 --> 00:41:29.840
They confirmed my served time.
They couldn’t at first.
00:41:30.000 --> 00:41:31.720
It’s one year and a half.
00:41:31.880 --> 00:41:34.440
She said not to rush
or it will get jammed.
00:41:34.720 --> 00:41:36.640
The attorney said before the recess.
00:41:37.080 --> 00:41:39.800
-Who did you talk to?
-The prosecutor.
00:41:40.200 --> 00:41:42.200
Count up, guys.
00:41:43.720 --> 00:41:45.600
Count, people.
00:41:47.240 --> 00:41:49.480
-Good morning.
-Good morning.
00:42:06.800 --> 00:42:11.040
Alright, let’s go through the list,
so you can leave soon.
00:42:11.600 --> 00:42:17.920
One, two, three, four, five,
six, seven, eight, nine...
00:42:19.160 --> 00:42:20.960
Artaza is happy to be in jail.
00:42:21.120 --> 00:42:22.320
Where is the old guy?
00:42:24.520 --> 00:42:26.360
-He’s happy.
-He is.
00:42:26.360 --> 00:42:29.560
Did you hear him singing,
“Happiness haha”!
00:42:29.720 --> 00:42:32.800
I’m telling you, this guy’s sick.
00:42:33.200 --> 00:42:35.320
-He’s thrilled.
-Joyful.
00:42:36.000 --> 00:42:38.080
How long he’s been like this?
00:42:38.880 --> 00:42:41.280
Happy like this?
Ever since we arrived.
00:42:41.960 --> 00:42:44.280
They were up for a snatch
by a street light.
00:42:44.440 --> 00:42:45.840
What did he say to you?
00:42:46.280 --> 00:42:50.920
We were up for a snatch
around Constitución.
00:42:52.520 --> 00:42:53.640
It was four of us.
00:42:53.960 --> 00:42:56.600
-Suddenly, I hear...
-Listen.
00:42:56.760 --> 00:42:59.440
He says: “I’m homesick.”
00:42:59.880 --> 00:43:01.920
I go, “What do you mean?”
00:43:02.080 --> 00:43:04.480
I thought I’d misunderstood.
00:43:04.640 --> 00:43:08.960
He says:
“Don’t you ever miss the old gang,
00:43:09.120 --> 00:43:10.960
the Batán prison?”.
00:43:11.360 --> 00:43:13.520
Can you believe it?
“The old gang”.
00:43:14.000 --> 00:43:17.120
I would walk past Batán
and looked the other way, rancho.
00:43:17.400 --> 00:43:20.120
I'd touch my balls, just in case.
00:43:20.280 --> 00:43:22.400
No, man. He’s a nut job.
00:43:22.760 --> 00:43:24.920
“Kill this old pig,” I said.
00:43:25.080 --> 00:43:29.240
We all burst out laughing.
“Kill him before he goes back.”
00:43:29.600 --> 00:43:31.640
-No kidding.
-Yes. “I’m homesick.”
00:43:31.800 --> 00:43:34.000
-He wants to stay here.
-Yeah, he does.
00:43:34.200 --> 00:43:35.640
The block is his.
00:43:35.800 --> 00:43:39.120
-He’s worried about the cleaning.
-Right, he’s worried sick.
00:43:39.280 --> 00:43:40.880
Who’s gonna stay in Carpentry...
00:43:41.080 --> 00:43:44.280
Think about this.
We’ve let him get away with stuff.
00:43:44.760 --> 00:43:47.480
-With a lot of stuff!
-Why is that?
00:43:47.800 --> 00:43:49.880
-Out of respect for the guy.
-Out of respect.
00:43:50.160 --> 00:43:53.640
-He’s a lovable guy after all.
-Right.
00:43:54.240 --> 00:43:57.640
-And we respect....
-His ways, his rules.
00:43:58.280 --> 00:44:01.320
-Also, he’s smart and he knows it.
-Sure.
00:44:01.480 --> 00:44:04.560
And he teaches you stuff too.
00:44:05.000 --> 00:44:08.520
Sometimes he’s there,
and I can't stand it, man.
00:44:08.960 --> 00:44:11.600
It makes me sick sometimes,
00:44:11.760 --> 00:44:15.000
you can’t blow off some steam...
00:44:16.680 --> 00:44:19.120
And out of respect for a person,
00:44:20.200 --> 00:44:23.480
who’s an old dog,
and who cares...
00:44:23.960 --> 00:44:28.440
...but, whatever,
that's how it is, man!
00:44:30.440 --> 00:44:33.920
-He’s older.
-He’s an old guy.
00:44:35.040 --> 00:44:37.000
It’s true, buddy.
00:44:37.520 --> 00:44:43.040
-If you think about it...
-He’s the Prison Godfather.
00:44:44.240 --> 00:44:48.640
What's with this guy
that gets you to chill?
00:44:49.280 --> 00:44:52.400
-You aren’t mad anymore.
-No.
00:44:52.800 --> 00:44:55.400
He just says
a couple of words, and...
00:44:55.720 --> 00:44:58.360
-He tames the beast.
-He really does.
00:45:06.160 --> 00:45:08.520
Good job. Go for it.
00:45:09.960 --> 00:45:11.560
Go for it, man.
00:45:11.720 --> 00:45:13.720
-Run.
-Out.
00:45:14.880 --> 00:45:16.960
Take the bike, man. Go there.
00:45:17.720 --> 00:45:20.000
They are cheating you, man.
00:45:27.440 --> 00:45:28.920
Go!
00:46:09.840 --> 00:46:12.880
Today, I’ll give you
the story of a gaucho.
00:46:13.040 --> 00:46:14.360
Is he studying?
00:46:14.520 --> 00:46:18.560
-He’s acting up a book, right?
-It all started in...
00:46:19.160 --> 00:46:22.360
Good afternoon, teachers,
principal, students.
00:46:23.440 --> 00:46:28.000
-Today, I’ll give you the story...
-I think it’s for school.
00:46:28.440 --> 00:46:31.680
-A very special gaucho.
-It’s from a book or something.
00:46:41.840 --> 00:46:44.280
Every time we go to Psych, it’s...
00:46:44.440 --> 00:46:47.520
...it’s like you're getting
psychological treatment.
00:46:47.880 --> 00:46:49.720
They make assessments.
00:46:49.880 --> 00:46:52.880
You have to talk, and, as you do,
00:46:53.040 --> 00:46:56.200
the shrink evaluates your progress.
00:46:56.880 --> 00:46:58.960
The shrink you see
00:46:59.120 --> 00:47:02.200
is not like the forensic
psychologist for your report.
00:47:02.600 --> 00:47:04.840
You go to a shrink
because you need it.
00:47:05.000 --> 00:47:07.360
She listens to you, tells you stuff.
00:47:07.680 --> 00:47:11.680
The next session,
she'll assess your progress
00:47:11.840 --> 00:47:13.760
If you move forward or backward.
00:47:14.000 --> 00:47:17.400
-You move backward like a crab.
-She discharged me.
00:47:17.560 --> 00:47:20.720
-I'm not discharged yet.
-I am.
00:47:20.880 --> 00:47:22.920
-I’m not there yet.
-Yeah.
00:47:23.720 --> 00:47:26.000
Listen, do they share your reports?
00:47:26.480 --> 00:47:28.560
-No, they don’t.
-She told me she would.
00:47:28.720 --> 00:47:31.440
Yeah, but that's about
your progress.
00:47:31.600 --> 00:47:34.560
-if you moved forward or backward.
-Forward.
00:47:34.920 --> 00:47:37.600
It’s not about that.
It’s about your behavior.
00:47:37.760 --> 00:47:39.800
I’m telling you
the shrink told me...
00:47:39.960 --> 00:47:42.080
Now, let me explain it.
00:47:42.240 --> 00:47:44.320
Listen, you worn-out boxer,
here’s the thing.
00:47:44.600 --> 00:47:47.720
You don’t belong in this world.
00:47:47.880 --> 00:47:50.480
This is for us criminals.
You’re here by mistake.
00:47:50.640 --> 00:47:54.520
You gotta go home, train,
box, make money. OK?
00:47:54.760 --> 00:47:58.600
-He's killing me.
-You’re a champ, you can’t be here.
00:47:58.760 --> 00:48:01.040
Asshole! You’re wasting
your time here, dog!
00:48:01.040 --> 00:48:02.360
You have to go out and cash in.
00:48:02.360 --> 00:48:04.080
-Why won’t they let me go?
-They will.
00:48:04.280 --> 00:48:04.960
He’s right.
00:48:05.120 --> 00:48:07.760
You have to make money,
get boxing matches.
00:48:08.000 --> 00:48:09.160
What are you?
00:48:09.320 --> 00:48:11.840
-Boxidanga.
-So?
00:48:12.000 --> 00:48:14.920
Shut up, monkey. Don’t laugh.
I’m making sense.
00:49:47.760 --> 00:49:50.480
-Whose jacket is this?
-It’s dope.
00:49:51.280 --> 00:49:53.320
There you go.
00:50:03.520 --> 00:50:05.280
There. You're good to go.
00:50:06.560 --> 00:50:08.280
Let me see.
00:50:09.600 --> 00:50:12.800
Pretty boy this Marce.
00:50:20.400 --> 00:50:23.040
I look so good!
My wife will go crazy.
00:50:39.760 --> 00:50:42.240
Someone could fix the speakers, man.
00:50:58.040 --> 00:51:00.400
Can we get trough?
00:51:00.560 --> 00:51:01.760
Thank you.
00:52:17.280 --> 00:52:18.440
Yeah, totally!
00:52:18.800 --> 00:52:21.400
She’s bringing my daughter, I can’t.
00:52:21.560 --> 00:52:24.080
You could do it standing!
00:52:24.360 --> 00:52:27.240
If my daughter falls asleep, maybe.
00:52:31.800 --> 00:52:35.160
If my daughter falls asleep,
I have a chance.
00:52:36.920 --> 00:52:39.920
-Otherwise, I can’t.
-No way, man! If your kid's there...
00:53:26.360 --> 00:53:28.440
Nobody arrived yet.
00:53:30.280 --> 00:53:32.720
It’s 8.35 am and nobody’s here yet.
00:53:33.720 --> 00:53:36.320
There are people here.
00:53:36.840 --> 00:53:38.600
Security is slow.
00:53:40.160 --> 00:53:43.680
They don’t want to work,
they’re feeling lazy today
00:53:51.520 --> 00:53:53.840
Man! It’s 8.45 already.
00:54:02.120 --> 00:54:05.360
-Here, Matías.
-Hi, honey.
00:55:45.560 --> 00:55:48.600
-How’s your school report?
-Good.
00:55:49.280 --> 00:55:54.440
-How good? Grades?
-They all got a C, but I got a B.
00:55:55.040 --> 00:55:56.400
-B?
-Yes.
00:55:56.880 --> 00:55:58.840
-You?
-I got straight Bs.
00:55:59.200 --> 00:56:01.560
-No, B and A.
-No.
00:56:01.920 --> 00:56:04.920
A in Science, and B
in all the others.
00:56:06.200 --> 00:56:08.440
I got a B in P.E.
00:56:08.800 --> 00:56:10.400
-An 8?
-Yeah.
00:56:10.560 --> 00:56:12.080
-Me too.
-Good.
00:56:12.320 --> 00:56:16.680
She danced folk music
at the school concert.
00:56:17.240 --> 00:56:19.200
-Did you dance, honey?
-Me too.
00:56:19.640 --> 00:56:22.200
I got an appointment
at the hospital
00:56:22.720 --> 00:56:24.680
Was she moving?
Was the heart beating?
00:56:24.840 --> 00:56:26.160
-Yes, it went, “tuc-tuc-tuc”.
00:56:26.440 --> 00:56:28.440
-The doctor says...
-How far in are you?
00:56:28.600 --> 00:56:30.160
The sonogram’s gonna say.
00:56:30.520 --> 00:56:33.880
-But like four and a half, five.
-Yeah?
00:56:35.000 --> 00:56:36.840
Already?
00:56:38.840 --> 00:56:40.800
No wonder you’re feeling it.
00:56:41.000 --> 00:56:42.600
She asked me,
“You feel it moving?”. “Yeah.”
00:56:42.760 --> 00:56:46.520
I didn’t tell her
I was four months pregnant.
00:56:46.680 --> 00:56:49.920
I told her I was two months in.
00:56:50.240 --> 00:56:52.760
-And when she did the...
-Why did you lie?
00:56:52.920 --> 00:56:57.320
Because I should’ve gone
see her in the beginning.
00:56:57.680 --> 00:57:00.720
She said, “let’s clear it up.”
00:57:02.240 --> 00:57:06.640
She measured the baby and said,
“You’re four months in.”
00:57:30.760 --> 00:57:32.800
Where’s the bathroom?
00:57:32.960 --> 00:57:34.120
Here.
00:57:34.320 --> 00:57:36.880
And the girl’s bedroom?
00:57:37.200 --> 00:57:41.640
-No, her room is pink.
-I didn’t know that.
00:57:41.640 --> 00:57:43.400
And the boy’s room?
00:57:43.720 --> 00:57:44.840
Good!
00:57:46.600 --> 00:57:48.200
Jump.
00:57:48.520 --> 00:57:49.680
Go.
00:57:50.520 --> 00:57:52.480
One, two, three, go!
00:57:54.080 --> 00:57:55.200
Come on.
00:57:56.800 --> 00:57:58.400
-Ready?
-Go.
00:58:23.240 --> 00:58:25.960
That’s how love is...
00:59:12.760 --> 00:59:14.000
I love you guys, okay?
00:59:14.160 --> 00:59:15.760
I’ll call you soon, baby.
00:59:32.720 --> 00:59:37.920
You are my love, my joy
What’s real in my life
00:59:38.440 --> 00:59:43.280
My baby who comforts
My rushed soul
00:59:43.920 --> 00:59:47.840
You are my shelter and my truth
00:59:52.240 --> 00:59:57.440
You are my love, my joy
What’s real in my life
00:59:57.720 --> 01:00:02.320
My baby who comforts
My rushed soul
01:00:02.760 --> 01:00:07.320
You are my shelter and my truth
01:00:07.480 --> 01:00:13.480
There is lying in the eyes
There is lying carved on the skin...
01:01:06.120 --> 01:01:08.120
I don´t stop in the street.
01:01:08.120 --> 01:01:10.080
I’m out there from 8 am to 9 pm.
01:01:10.240 --> 01:01:12.760
I’m around seeing things.
There’s a lot.
01:01:13.000 --> 01:01:15.920
You have to be in the street,
do your homework.
01:01:17.640 --> 01:01:19.520
My wife complained,
but I'd go:
01:01:19.680 --> 01:01:21.680
“I’ll pick you up for lunch,
01:01:21.840 --> 01:01:25.000
we take the girls to school,
and then I go out to make money.”
01:01:25.280 --> 01:01:26.680
You gotta have money.
01:01:27.400 --> 01:01:31.160
For the family, bills, outings,
clothes, food...
01:01:31.480 --> 01:01:34.480
-...everything.
-Everything.
01:01:34.720 --> 01:01:38.440
You want to buy this,
you want to buy that.
01:01:38.960 --> 01:01:42.920
- It’s not a simple life.
- No.
01:01:44.200 --> 01:01:49.400
We want a nice life.
and takes more than two bucks.
01:01:49.760 --> 01:01:53.360
We live better
than those with money,
01:01:54.120 --> 01:01:56.440
because we indulge ourselves.
01:01:56.880 --> 01:01:59.520
-If we feel like going out to eat...
-It’s day by day.
01:01:59.680 --> 01:02:01.200
This economy, though...
01:02:01.360 --> 01:02:05.480
It doesn't matter, rancho,
we are thieves, dude.
01:02:06.160 --> 01:02:09.640
We don’t care if we spend
five or six grand at a restaurant
01:02:10.000 --> 01:02:13.800
or 20 grand
for our daughter's birthday.
01:02:13.960 --> 01:02:15.840
The rich won’t do that.
01:02:16.160 --> 01:02:18.600
They try to save
up to the last buck.
01:02:18.760 --> 01:02:20.640
But not us, rancho.
01:02:21.520 --> 01:02:27.200
You can pay 170 grand a car
worth 150, just because you want it.
01:02:27.720 --> 01:02:31.440
We don’t care.
It's not our money.
01:02:32.640 --> 01:02:35.320
And it's OK,
because we do risk a lot.
01:03:29.480 --> 01:03:30.800
Enjoy.
01:03:31.640 --> 01:03:34.440
So, that’d be happiness to me.
01:03:35.080 --> 01:03:38.560
Leaving and...
never to come back again.
01:03:39.600 --> 01:03:42.120
It’s hard, a constant struggle.
01:03:42.560 --> 01:03:46.240
It’s like when you quit smoking.
One day at a time.
01:03:46.600 --> 01:03:49.560
When you've robbed
your entire life,
01:03:49.720 --> 01:03:54.280
it's a constant work
because everything gets to you.
01:03:54.800 --> 01:03:58.440
You buy something,
you go to a jewelry store,
01:03:58.600 --> 01:04:00.440
and you think: “Piece of cake.”
01:04:00.760 --> 01:04:04.400
The little devil is
always on your shoulder.
01:04:04.560 --> 01:04:07.080
-Well, but...
-You have to be in control.
01:04:07.480 --> 01:04:11.160
You are capable
of doing other things,
01:04:11.440 --> 01:04:13.720
to run a parking lot, a drugstore,
01:04:13.880 --> 01:04:16.720
having a job
and settling for a salary.
01:04:17.280 --> 01:04:22.400
If I had that, I could make it work
with my stepdaughter
01:04:22.840 --> 01:04:26.840
You stay clean and stop coming here.
01:04:28.000 --> 01:04:31.920
If you add up all your stints,
it’s over 15 years.
01:04:32.480 --> 01:04:34.720
Ever since I was a little boy,
01:04:34.880 --> 01:04:38.960
I’ve wanted to get somewhere
through stealing.
01:04:39.280 --> 01:04:42.400
If I don’t do it,
I’m not reaching my goal,
01:04:42.720 --> 01:04:45.600
which is doing what
I want through stealing.
01:04:46.040 --> 01:04:48.360
I wanna stop stealing
through stealing.
01:04:48.720 --> 01:04:51.760
I want to do something
that settles me down good,
01:04:51.920 --> 01:04:54.520
not ‘good good’,
that's sort of impossible, right?
01:04:55.000 --> 01:04:56.960
Just enough to settle down
01:04:57.120 --> 01:05:00.280
without the need
of doing anything else.
01:05:00.800 --> 01:05:04.320
You should stop now
that you’re leaving.
01:05:04.480 --> 01:05:07.760
-It’s like your fourth sentence.
-It is my fourth.
01:05:08.840 --> 01:05:12.640
Enough, dude!
How much more?
01:05:13.280 --> 01:05:15.600
-Did you hear what I said?
-Yes.
01:05:15.760 --> 01:05:18.640
-Steal my way out of stealing.
-Yes, your oath.
01:05:19.080 --> 01:05:23.480
No, it’s not an oath.
I wouldn’t be at ease
01:05:24.080 --> 01:05:27.160
if I don’t do
what I set myself out to do.
01:05:28.000 --> 01:05:31.320
Being a crook
I can’t tell you or anybody
01:05:31.680 --> 01:05:34.280
-to follow my path.
-Of course not.
01:05:34.720 --> 01:05:35.920
Nobody.
01:05:36.400 --> 01:05:39.040
Aside from that being wrong,
01:05:39.480 --> 01:05:43.760
the thief, the burglar, us,
we spend our life dreaming.
01:05:45.160 --> 01:05:48.920
This is a dream, we have to wake up.
01:05:49.520 --> 01:05:52.480
You say, “I’m going
to steal this bottle.”
01:05:53.440 --> 01:05:56.360
You did it. It’s yours.
01:05:57.160 --> 01:05:59.320
Will you stop there? No!
01:05:59.640 --> 01:06:01.760
Now you'll steal the bottle factory!
01:06:01.960 --> 01:06:03.480
So we're back here.
01:06:03.640 --> 01:06:06.520
We can’t settle for anything.
We keep on dreaming.
01:06:06.800 --> 01:06:08.880
This is a dream.
01:06:09.240 --> 01:06:10.880
Just the smart ones
wake up.
01:06:11.040 --> 01:06:14.800
We keep dreaming
of getting rich, because comfort...
01:06:15.680 --> 01:06:19.440
But your wife now,
anyway gets comfort through a job,
01:06:19.920 --> 01:06:23.360
she could have that with you,
but we spend our life dreaming.
01:06:23.680 --> 01:06:25.960
We think we’ll get loaded,
but we don’t get shit.
01:06:26.200 --> 01:06:29.640
All we do is get our family
in trouble by being here.
01:06:30.080 --> 01:06:33.520
They come, you tell them
to stop coming, "I'm leaving".
01:06:33.960 --> 01:06:37.440
I get you, you’re a human being.
But thieves are dreamers.
01:06:52.720 --> 01:06:55.360
Take care, my friend!
01:06:55.920 --> 01:06:57.920
-I love you.
-Me too.
01:06:59.520 --> 01:07:01.960
Take care and be
a professional boxer, Iván.
01:07:02.120 --> 01:07:04.240
Yes, my friend. I love you.
01:07:04.600 --> 01:07:08.840
Be in touch. I’ll be waiting
for the good news, to see you on TV.
01:07:09.280 --> 01:07:11.560
Don´t give up, that’s your path.
01:07:14.280 --> 01:07:16.240
-See you later.
-Yeah.
01:07:27.200 --> 01:07:28.960
Take care.
01:07:30.360 --> 01:07:32.800
-See you.
-See you, brother.
01:07:33.320 --> 01:07:35.040
-I love you, man.
-Me too.
01:07:35.560 --> 01:07:37.600
-You know? I love you.
-I know.
01:07:37.840 --> 01:07:40.000
-I’ll call you when I’m out.
-Alright.
01:07:41.640 --> 01:07:43.160
Go, Bilbao!
01:07:43.880 --> 01:07:45.960
Show your moves, Bilbao!
01:07:53.280 --> 01:07:57.320
-That’s the old man, over there.
-He’s acting young.
01:07:57.480 --> 01:08:00.880
See you, dork. I have your number.
01:08:01.800 --> 01:08:03.760
-See you, Iván!
-See you, Bilbao!
01:08:07.040 --> 01:08:08.360
Keep on boxing!
01:08:08.520 --> 01:08:10.240
Take care of that!
01:08:15.920 --> 01:08:18.520
