Love Is Who I Am

Love Is Who I Am is a coming of age fiction drama that centers on Robson, a young adolescent forced to leave his hometown in small-town Minas Gerais after being violently punished by his father for walking cross-dressed. Sent with his younger brother to live with their grandmother in Belo Horizonte, Robson’s move underscores rural to urban migration, LGBTQ+ identity formation, and enduring familial and societal homophobia.

Through sensitive performances from FLIP as Robson, the film interrogates intersections of gender nonconformity, class, and racial violence in contemporary Brazil. It offers an emotionally resonant portrait of youth resilience, sibling dynamics, and the quest for self-recognition amidst aggression. A strong reference point for studies in queer Brazilian fiction, youth representation, and identity politics in urban peripheries.
