Descendants of the Sea, Ep. 04 - Women of the Sea

View on the Pragda STREAM site

Two groups of women are struggling to preserve their traditional trades, facing the challenges of modernity, environmental threats, and natural disasters. The shellfish gatherers of San Pedro cove, north of the city of La Serena, are aging and are not receiving new recruits to work on the beaches. Meanwhile, the descendants of Juana Vergara, founder of the town of Punta de Choros further north, have adopted new strategies to successfully maintain and promote the Changa culture of their ancestors.

Series Description
A six-part documentary series that shows how the culture of the Chango people, considered extinct until a couple of years ago, is still deeply rooted among many artisanal fishermen who live in the coastal territory of northern Chile.
